Bill Would Raise Minimum Age for Rifles, Shotguns

Some Democratic Assembly members want to raise California’s age threshold to buy shotguns and rifles. A measure by Oakland Assemblymember Rob Bonta would raise California’s minimum age from the current 18 years, setting a minimum of 21 years for all gun and ammunition purchases. The move comes in the wake of the Parkland Florida school shooting and a resulting wave of activism from Parkland students and other youth activists.
